"No matter how much you feed your ego, you will still feel empty and unfulfilled. Your soul will be starving and from what I’ve heard, starvation is a slow, miserable death."

Feed your soul, not your ego.

What (or who) do you love? What makes you feel alive? What do you have passion for? What brings you (true) fulfillment? If there was no money or bills to pay or other (false) “obligations,” how would you spend your life? Those are the things that feed your soul.

We are souls living a physical, human experience not humans having a soul experience, therefore only the things that call to and feed your soul will bring you TRUE fulfillment. But the ego often gets in the way. The ego is a lot like the immune system in the human body, but it tends to act like the immune system in those who have an autoimmune disorder. It means well but it’s often overactive. It wants to protect you but has developed beliefs, patterns, and fears from past wounds and traumas that actually hold you back. It often keeps you trapped in self-sabotaging and unfulfilling cycles as a result. It keeps you playing small and from living up to your true infinite potential.

So your ego is often there chiming in with things like “what if you fail? What if they leave you? What if you leave them but can’t find anyone else? What if you leave this job but can’t get another one? What if you’re rejected? What if you leave this house and can’t find another place to live? What if you’re not good enough? What will others think of me?“ Etc. Those are all fears. Whenever you make a choice and you choose any of those thoughts, you are choosing fear; you’re choosing ego over soul. You’re feeding the ego.

Many people will build a life on feeding the ego because it feels safe and comfortable and it’s what’s expected of them by society and others. But you will find that when you’re only feeding your ego, you’re starving your soul. Those ego wants and choices won’t bring you true fulfillment. It’s like feeding your body empty calories. Your body might think it’s getting what it needs but it’s not getting the nutrients (fulfillment) it actually needs. No matter how much you feed your ego, you will still feel empty and unfulfilled. Your soul will be starving and from what I’ve heard, starvation is a slow, miserable death.

Further, anything built on ego will eventually crumble. The foundation will not be stable. It’s false. It will not weather a storm or test. When you build something based on your soul, it’s stable and solid. It will weather whatever storm or external circumstances are thrown at it. The Ego would be like the facades that are built and used in film/tv and theatre; they might look real and great on the outside but it’s not stable, there’s no stable foundation. The soul would be a stable home with a foundation. Which one do you think would fair better in a hurricane?

And here we are, in a “hurricane” of sorts. A random virus that has brought life as we know it to a halt for a little bit. Maybe use this time to reflect and think about what in your life is feeding your ego, but not your soul. What’s bringing you fulfillment and what is just a facade but leaving you empty? It’s never too late to make the choices that feed your soul. (Just don’t beat yourself up too much if you realize you’ve made choices from ego before. We all have at some point. It’s human. And society is really good at conditioning us to buy into this idea of living from ego. It’s okay to be afraid just don’t let fear hold you back. It’s okay to not want to get hurt or replay old wounds and traumas. It’s okay to make a mistake. Forgive yourself, forgive others.) So just take what you’ve learned, take your power back, and feed your soul.
